Incited By a Desire For Opportunity

Originating from a small idea, the club was created in attempts to provide more opportunities in understanding the many careers in law and government. Many law programs available for students are often expensive or incredibly inaccessible. Through identifying this lack of opportunity, the LCC was formed to created in October of 2020. By using the virtual medium most organization were reliant on due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the desire for students to both learn and socialize after months of coronavirus restriction, the LCC served to address these issues and be a resource for any that needed it. The Lawyer Connection was created with the goal of providing students with the ability to learn more about the legal fields they are interested in order to make informed decisions when pursuing those careers in the future.

Kayla Nicholas, President & Founder
Kayla is a senior at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York. She has had an interest in law since she started debating in middle school and developed a passion for advocacy and social justice. After spending a extensive amount of time researching programs and initiatives that were law related she realized that there was a significant lack of opportunities available. As a result, she started the club in attempts to find like minded people interested in learning about new professions and careers. In her free time she enjoys reading, listening to music and playing viola.

Shiying Lu, Secretary
My name is Shiying, and I am currently a freshman at University at Albany pursuing the Digital Forensics major and their accelerated joint degree law program simultaneously. In my free time, I am always involved in fitness and nature: picnics, sunsets, and hikes, and I am a competitive dragon boat paddler. I also enjoy public speaking and am interested in corporate law: thus I joined LCC to unite with like-minded, driven individuals while opening myself up to knowledge of various fields of law this club has to offer.

Tonima Bhowmik, Secretary
"Hello! My name is Tonima Bhowmik and I am a rising junior in the Law and Society major at Brooklyn Technical High School. Law has been one of my interests for as long as I can remember, but as a first-generation high school student, it is extremely difficult to come into contact with people of high authority in the legal field. However, joining the Lawyer Connection Club has allowed me to extend my professional network through detailed and engaging meetings and Q&As. I truly believe this will be an enriching experience for all of you and I cannot wait to "meet" you! "
